How to display the SharePoint 2010 site description

Problem:

I cannot figure out how to display the SharePoint 2010 site description in my custom master page. In Site Actions > Site Settings > Title, Description and Icon, I have “My Site Title” and “My Site Description”:

Title, Description, and Icon area under "look and feel"
Title, Description, and Icon area under “look and feel”

But “My Site Description” does not show up in my custom master page (or in the v4.master either):

Site description does not show up in header region.
Site description does not show up in header section

So. How do I get SharePoint to display the site description?

PS: <asp:ContentPlaceHolder id=”PlaceHolderPageDescription” runat=”server”/> is not the solution.

Solution:

Try this:

<SharePoint:ProjectProperty runat=”server” property=”Description”></SharePoint:ProjectProperty>

ProjectProperty with property of "description"
Displays the site description in whatever spot you place the highlighted code in your master page.
